Memorial for Epeli Hau‘ofa

This event may be of interest for many of you, especially those who have an interest in Epeli Hau‘ofa's numerous and important contributions to Pacific Islands studies. Please consider joining us.

Renowned and influential Pacific Islander leader, author, mentor, poet, storyteller, scholar and friend to many of us, Epeli Hau‘ofa, passed away on January 11, 2009.

The Center for Pacific Islands Studies (CPIS) at the UH in collaboration with the Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP) at the East-West Center is organizing a gathering of friends, colleagues, students and others who have been touched by Epeli's work. This is to give people the opportunity to reflect on , and celebrate Epeli's life and work.

We invite you to join us at the Hale Halawai (at the East-West Center) this Friday, January 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Come with stories about your interactions with Epeli, and favorite excerpts of his work to read and share with others. This will be an informal gathering and you are welcome to sing if you wish, or simply "tok stori" about a person who has single-handedly changed the course of Pacific Studies.

Please, bring some pupu/snack and drinks. Kava will be provided.
