Maori Language Revitalization
Maori is a potentially endangered language. Their educational system is similar to Hawaii's education system where English is primarily taught. New Zealand like Hawaii is also highly influenced by Western civilization. To my surprise, programs offered to preserve the Maori language consisted of alcohol and rehabilitation centers. The Government also provides funds for television programs associated with restoring the Maori language. During the conference, a native of New Zealand mentioned something about Maori and language curriculum in school. I'm not sure if it was a suggestion or already has been confirmed, but this action suggests that in 2028 New Zealand will be a bilingual nation. Another cool fact is that "revitalization" is spelled "revitalisation," which I'm assuming is likely due to British influence.
